NEWS: From Pollution to Circular Solutions

2 online training lectures on pressing global challenges and innovative solutions in the textile sector

In an initiative to strengthen academic-industry collaboration and promote awareness of sustainable development, two impactful online training lectures were held with students from the University of Tirana. These sessions aimed to equip future professionals with insights into pressing global challenges and innovative solutions shaping the textile sector.

On June 19, 16 students from the Textile branch participated in a 1-hour session titled “Global Trends and Innovation Tackling Water Pollution.” The lecture focused on the environmental impact of textile production, highlighting innovative technologies such as waterless dyeing, eco-friendly chemicals, and advanced wastewater treatment solutions. Students explored how global best practices can be applied locally to reduce water pollution from textile processes.

On June 27, 18 students from the Economy branch joined a 1-hour training on “The Circular Economy’s Impact on the Textile Sector.” This session examined how circular business models—such as recycling, reuse, and sustainable supply chains—are transforming the industry. The discussion also covered EU policies, market trends, and the economic benefits of transitioning to a circular economy for textiles.

Both lectures received active participation and positive feedback from students, who expressed interest in deepening their knowledge through follow-up activities and potential project collaborations. The initiative highlighted the importance of interdisciplinary education in addressing environmental challenges and preparing the next generation of professionals for a greener, more innovative textile sector.

These trainings represent a valuable step toward integrating sustainability into higher education curricula and building bridges between academic knowledge and real-world impact.
