EVENTS: Workshop on Competencies and Innovative Solutions for Reducing Microplastic Pollutants in Water

Milieukontakt Albania recently organized a workshop on 25-26 February in Tirana titled “Competencies and Innovative Solutions for Addressing the Challenges of Reducing Microplastic Pollutants in Water.” This event brought together representatives from 20 small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in Albania’s textile sector to discuss strategies for minimizing microplastic pollution in water resources.

The workshop focused on equipping SMEs with essential knowledge in:

  • Circular economy principles to reduce waste and pollution,
  • Innovative solutions for tackling microplastic pollution,
  • Sustainable design and production practices to minimize environmental impact,
  • Eco-friendly alternatives to synthetic fibers and polluting materials.

Experts from the Polytechnic University of Tirana, Department of Textile and Fashion, provided valuable insights into the environmental impact of microplastics and the latest technological innovations for filtering and reducing them in water.

Participants engaged in discussions on:

  • Advanced technologies for filtering microplastics
  • Extending the lifecycle of textile products
  • Raising consumer awareness about synthetic fibers’ impact.

The event successfully fostered collaboration, knowledge sharing, and a commitment to implementing sustainable practices. SMEs expressed their enthusiasm for exploring new solutions to reduce their environmental footprint, marking a significant step toward a more sustainable textile industry in Albania.
