EVENTS: Presenting Mission4Water project at the Roundtable and Knowledge Exchange Event, Tackling plastic pollution and marine litter in the Blue Economy Sectors

On Friday, Feb 21st, the Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence on Sustainable Blue Economy (CoE-SUBE) at the Euro-Mediterranean University (EMUNI) in collaboration with the Yousea Institute, organized an expert roundtable and discussion on combating plastic pollution and waste in the blue economy sector, as well as broader environmental challenges and solutions.
Key topics included:
– Innovative projects tackling marine waste
– The rising issue of plastic pollution, including microplastics from cigarette butts and wet wipes
– Clean-up campaigns and initiatives to reduce waste in the sea
– Opportunities for reusing marine litter and other waste materials
– Preventive measures and systems to stop microplastics from entering our seas
In the afternoon, the conversation continued with a knowledge exchange organized by the consortium #PovezaniZaMorje, including Morigenos Institute, IZRIIS, NOMED, and Sea Oasis Piran Institute Yousea. Among other speakers Prof. Andrej Krzan presented the work at PlanetCare, Ljubljana. In his talk he also presented two IPA-ADRION Interreg projects MISSION4WATER and TETHYS4ADRION that are both tackling the issue of plastic pollution in the region. The open call for projects in the MISSION4WATER projects was promoted.
